Are you aware of the ICD-10 Official Date?

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services released the final date  on August 24, 2012.  The “New” Official implementation date is now October 1, 2014.  This is a one year delay from the previous implementation date.

The rule was published September 5, 2012 in the Federal Register.  This rule also sets dates for health plan and provider identifiers, and emphasizes providers and payers must adopt the code set by the 2014 date.

The rule explains the one-year delay and states it allows payers and providers additional time to implement the new code set.

You can view the final rule here: http://www.ofr.gov/OFRUpload/OFRData/2012-21238_PI.pdf

With all of the demands placed on providers for meaningful use incentives and the usual annual changes that take place, we think this was a great move, however, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be preparing, 2014 will be here before you know it.
